In this page you will find answers to some basic questions. If you dont find the awnser to your question email me via cantact page and I will get back to you.

Please read the disclaimer before proceeding

   1) How much power do I need?
The answers depends on how many lights you have and what kind they are, you want to look at how many amps they pull per set and multiply that by the number of sets you have, 50 light sets generally take .15 amps per set and Icicle lights generally take .10 amps per set. You can find out by looking on the tag attached to the set by the male plug. Check your breakers for the circuits you plan on using to power your decorations.

   2) How many sets can I run in a series?
With most end to end mini lights you don't want to go over 3 sets in a series, Icicle you can do 4 in a series. On most ropelite sets you can use up to 150 feet in one series, and on mesh lights you only want to plug up to 4 sets in a series.

   3) What happens if I use to many in a series?
Chances are that they will light for about 30 seconds or less and then go out because you are pulling to much amperage thru the first set's fuses. If this happens to you replace the fuses in the male plug of the first set. There should be one or two little doors that you can slide open and replace the fuses, if not you will need to either replace just the male plug which is not recommended, and will void any warranty you have on them or replace the set. Use the spare fuses that came with the set. If you do not have any spare fuses pick up some from St Nicks or any hardware store. Make sure you get fuses with the same amperage!

  4) What can I do to speed up the process of hanging up the lights?
First of all locate your plugs that you want to use (refer to #1), then test ALL your lights BEFORE you hang them. Next you want to run an extension cord up to where you want to hang your lights so that you can have them plugged in while you hang them up, this way you know right away if one of the strands goes down and it gives you a better idea of what they look like. Take only a couple of lights out of their box at a time and keep them separated so they don't get tangled, if you go to St Nicks you can get spools and a couple other things  to keep your lights organized.

  5) How can I attach my lights to the outside of my house?
There is a few different options: 1. Use light clips which can be used on gutters or shingles. They have different ones for mini, icicles, ropelight, etc. 2. Use u-nails or cable nails, u-nails look better but are harder to use but look better. 3. You can also use nails and screws if you wish but they don't work as well. 4. Finally there is also clips with adhesives that you can use to attach them to brick walls, etc.

  6) How can I hang my lights on an outdoor tree?
You can either get a ladder and just lay them on top of the branches occasionally going around the branch to help hold them on or you can do the same thing with a light decorating poll. I suggest you hang the lights about 2-4 inches in from the edge of the branch and they shouldn't come off unless you have really high winds, if you hang them any further in then they wont show up as well.

  7) What are some general safety tips?
First off make sure you have a sturdy ladder to climb up preferably steel not wood, unless you can access the roof thru a window or porch. If you work at night make sure you have work lights on your roof so that you don't trip over any wires. Alot of the newer houses have a steeper roof pitch, but they also have safety rings located in various places to tie into. If you have one on your roof use it! All you need to use it is a basic harness and some climbing rope both are pretty cheap. Don't go on the roof if there is any snow or ice in the area your going to be working you can very easily slip off the roof, I have done this and it doesn't feel the greatest. And lastly stay aware of what is where, step over wires and just be alert.
